Dear Eliot: 2.5 Years

Dear Eliot,

You are two and a half years old and my what a last six months it has been!  I will NEVER ever again judge the woman in the grocery store trying to figure out her next move as her toddler has.it.out on aisle three.  The most perfect, loving, wonderful kiddo all the sudden becomes an extra on Gremlins....as a gremlin.  Thankfully, you are growing out of this and going back to your sweet, docile self.  It's the hard that makes it great, right? RIGHT?!

You are the perfect big brother to Sebastian (who you still call Saya sometimes).  You love to love on him and boss him and throw your hands up and sigh at him.  Not really sure where you get that. :)  One of your "chores" is to feed Sebastian, which you LOVE to do, and do well.

Today was your last day at your Mother's Day Out program as you're entering a big boy preschool.  You met your teachers and all your new friends the other night and you did fine until everyone started rustling and leaving and you thought I was going to leave you.  For the night.  You immediately asked for your lunchbox (accepting your sentence) and let the alligator tears fall.  Bless it.

Speaking of chores! You LOVE any kind of spray and paper towel deal so since you smear eat your breakfast on the coffee table, it's your job to Windex it.  The other day you asked for music through the earphones while you did it (two points for creativity because you have never seen us do this).  I attached the ipod with some Jackson 5 tunes and you were good to go!

I absolutely love my Fridays with you.  They are my day off to run around and explore with you. I can't even begin to say how much fun it is.  This is you at the Perot Museum and you had a BLAST with Ms. Cori and Embry.  We also love to go to the Arboretum, the splash park, the "turtles and ducks" (Northpark Mall) and any park when it's not 110 degrees outside.

You have recently gotten REALLY interested in instruments which makes our hearts swell (especially your daddy's!)  I found you one morning in the drum room doing your thing and was so excited.  You also love to play piano on Lovey's piano at her house but also on the coffee table, the arm of a chair, a pillow on the floor, or pretty much any other raised surface.  You play along with Mr. Miles at church much to ours and everyone's delight.

Eliot, we finally get to hear you sing sweet songs and we can actually make requests! The rotation includes Wheels on the Bus, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, 1 Little 2 Little 3 Little Numbers, Jesus Loves Me and ABC's.  You also will tell us, unprompted, that you love us and if you only knew what that does to our hearts.

Your daddy and I absolutely LOVE this age (even with all your independence issues) and can't get over how easy we have it.  We think you're pretty perfect and cannot wait to see what year three will bring us!!

Love you too much,
Mommy/Mama
Lauren
