Dear Eliot: From, Dad

Son,

I am writing this note from seat 21A on a flight to Birmingham. I am headed to a Razorback game but on the way, I'm sharing the row with an over caffeinated frat guy that smells like hot dogs. He will not be quiet. This flight is a microcosm of the things I can't wait to do with you some day: Flying, Razorbacks and "cultural observations".

You are seven months old and I can't believe it. Just five more months and no more measuring your age in months, I promise. I always want to be honest with you and I must say that it was hard to give up the time with your mom that I enjoyed so much before you were born. HOWEVER, I have found that my days just don't start out right if mom doesn't bring you in to wake me up. I've noticed that when you see me, you start kicking and flashing a bashful grin. Without verbal communication, I don't know whether you are glad to see me or if you're thinking "wait, you mean I have to grow up in the same house as this clown?"

Currently, you have a tall head, fluffy chic down hair that you inherited from me (sorry), a perfectly round belly and sweaty, stinky feet, a trait you take great pride in being reminded of. I love hearing your "warbling" when you wake up from a nap. You are such a good sleeper. It's fun to read you your stories (as you incessantly try to close the book) and then give you your bottle. I just love every thing you do and although I'm looking forward to participating in your interests a little later, I really don't want you to grow up any time soon.

Ok, I'm going to wrap this up and go stuff a sock in 21C's mouth (one day you'll understand). Until then, just know how proud I am of you and how much I love you. I'm sure I'll show up here and write from time to time.

Love,

Dad

  1. He's a good one, that Patrick Cone.

And don't forget one more of Eliot's faves...grinding his teeth during meetings. Shiver.

  2. Eliot kicks & gives you a bashful grin because he LOVES you! Better soak up that adulation now, as one day he'll give you the look..... :/

    Sweet, sweet words!
